Tiofarma - Kropman Contamination Control
Tiofarma is a family business in Oud-Beijerland, The Netherlands that develops and produces many different medicines. For over 25 years, this company has had the goal of delivering the right medicine to the right patient on time. From raw material to medicine and everything in between. Tiofarma employs 300 specialists and generalists in all areas: research, development, registration, production, packaging, analysis, logistics, quality, planning and technical service.
Increase production capacity
In the vicinity of Rotterdam, Tiofarma works together with their customers and suppliers on the development and production of a wide variety of medicines. Tiofarma produces these medicines in small to medium-sized batches. Due to the growing demand for Tiofarma products, there was a need for more production space. In order to increase production capacity, Tiofarma commissioned a new 'Greenfield' pharmaceutical factory. (For your information, a ‘greenfield’ building project is built on a completely vacant site).
Production facility including 1100m2 new cleanroom and process installations
Kropman Contamination Control has designed and built all mechanical, electrical, measurement- and control installations and over 1100m2 of new cleanrooms including process installations for the new Tiofarma facility. Kropman also maintains the complete installation and cleanrooms. This includes the annual calibration of the sensors and the annual maintenance of all process installations. The cleanrooms are equipped with the most modern techniques where quality and durability go hand in hand.
The process installations consist of, among other things:
Two filling lines (processor 1 and 2) for filling ointments/cream;
Steam system for heating the process pipes indirectly;
Heating and cooling of the process equipment
Purified Water (PW) generation and distribution;
CIP and COP system including dosage system
"We wanted to increase our production capacity within a fixed time frame and budget," says Inge Terpstra, Production Director at Tiofarma. "We were looking for a partner with expertise in Contamination Control instead of a supplier of parts and services. Kropman Contamination Control immediately came to the meetings well prepared. Their project leader joined us to clarify the assignment and explain their working methods and support. In addition, there was good contact between the teams of both companies, so that the more difficult decisions could be taken quickly and effectively. All challenges in time, cost and quality and the balance between them could usually be solved in the project team, and otherwise in the steering committee."
Challenges
With any construction project, including cleanrooms, practice is often different from theory, explains Inge. "When challenges arose, Kropman always proposed solutions immediately and discussed the background and costs with us in complete transparency. Our objectives have been achieved and I would certainly recommend Kropman Contamination Control to other companies. We are very satisfied with the final result.
